Javanese Cirebon Dance Mask – Tari Topeng

Cirebon in West Java is famous for its mask dance that is based on various poems (ie Ramayana) with its central figure prince Panji. The different styles of masks are countless as are the versions of the Panji chronicles. The color of the face and shape of the eyes indicate what type of character is being portrayed. This mask is believed to represent Samba, a child-like character with a growing mind.
