Sema Bai are boundary stones which designate the sacred area of an ordination hall (ubosot) in a Thai Buddhist temple. The word “Bai” in Thai means leaf and the flat Sema stones always have the shape of a leaf somewhat akin to the shape of the leaves of the Body tree, the tree under which the Buddha achieved enlightenment.
