Cirebon in West Java is famous for its mask dance that is based on various poems (ie Ramayana) with its central figure prince Panji. The different styles of masks are countless as are the versions of the Panji chronicles. The color of the face and shape of the eyes indicate what type of character is being portrayed. This plain pale mask depicts a sophisticated and refined character. Without any adornments only the nose, mouth and eyes are painted on an off white base.
