Upper portion of a sitting Burmese paper-mache Buddha in the earth touching position. The Buddha is dressed in the simple garb of a monk, his ears curve out and touch his shoulders. The face is triangular in shape with a pointed nose and a small bow-like mouth. All of these and the downcast eyes are attributes of the Ava period. Patina and wear of the paper-mache date this piece to the early 1800s. (mounted on a contemporary metal stand)
