The front-opening chest (Bandaji) from Northern Korea uses lacy ironwork to decorate its front (Ssung-Ssung-I). The central hinge is an auspicious symbol representing the city’s south gate which usually was the main entry way into any Korean city. A thin red pigment finish emphasizes the filigree metalwork
